Upgrades to items are a method to boost the stats of an item. Depending on the type of upgrade, it can increase an item's Rarity or Mark Level and increase other stats.

Item Level

The value of an item's basic stats increases when it is upgraded. This value is the total of all of its upgraded benefits (attack magic attack, attack defense). The cost of upgrading items can be high, depending on the upgrader and what type of upgrade you choose to make. This is due to the sheer number of perks that must be modified to upgrade an item.

The level of an item is a commonly used measure of power, and can be found on all tooltips for items. It can also be used to limit how much PvP gear players can wear, since PvP is limited at a lower level. Players can see their average item level in their character sheet.

When deciding whether to purchase or sell gear, players can compare the level of an item. It's an excellent indicator of an item's quality and how much damage it's capable of causing. The item level can also be used to evaluate items when looking at the inventory of a seller.

On your PC, you can see the level of the item using ALT, or by using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. The item will be displayed with its full description, including the ilvl. You can also find it by hovering over an item and typing in /itemlevel chat.

There are many theories about how the level of an item is calculated. One theory is that the item level is a number that comes from a formula that calculates how much an item's stats are worth. It takes into consideration that different benefits are valued differently and that gems in the sockets increase the value of the item. Item Stats

Players can upgrade an item with a specific stat or reroll attaches. The stat ranges are determined by the item's level. However each Best item upgrade will contain at least one stat in that range unless they are an exclusive item, or a God Roll from a raid boss.

Another thing that could be changed is the possibility to upgrade equipment without having to reroll attachments, or pick which stats to enhance. However, as with the base equipment, this would need to be performed on a per-item level, and the interface for item comparison will not show all the stats that could be gained or lost at once.

Item Luck

The Luck stat of a player boosts the probability of obtaining items, the properties that are created by loot and the intensity of these properties. It does not, however, directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It merely gives players a possibility to obtain better equipment in earlier waves and is therefore more useful in early game runs as opposed to later ones, since most players prefer higher weapon scaling and defenses over the raw damage gain.

Luck can also boost the likelihood of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith’s overall chances of upgrading, which increase with each level of the item. These can also be increased with the use of anti-materials, such as a Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.

Armor, shields and weapons come with the default Luck value of 40. These items can be enhanced with golden ingots, spined leather or oak boards (depending on the material of the item) to grant an additional +40 Luck or to boost the existing Luck of an item, up to 140.

Certain items, like the weapon with Hollow-infused components, can also be equipped to increase the damage of any skill that deals damage by five percent. These items are available from the shop or crafted using the right ingredients.

Item Failure

Item upgrades are expensive and not all upgrades will succeed. Cash shop items can be used to increase the success rate of an upgrade or to stop players from losing their items if it does not work.

The rate of success of an upgrade is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the chance of successfully upgrading the item upgrader mod and it can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limitations to the extent to which the success rates can be improved, and the overall chance of an upgrade failing can't be greater than 100%..

The Luck of an item can influence the success of an upgrade. Every item has a success rate of 25 percent and each item that has Luck increases the chance of success by five percent.

It is important to note that upgrade items are rendered above the items in the inventory therefore enchantment glints and other effects can be masked by them. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
