The Best Robot Hoover

The best robot hoover can vacuum and mop without needing your attention, and it will leave your floors clean. Its price is affordable and its high-end features (such as dirt detector) are both positives.

Examine your robot's brush frequently for tangled debris and hair. Wash them when necessary. Some models will automatically empty their onboard dust bin into a larger bin at the base, which reduces the amount of fine dust released into the air.

1. Roomba Q5 pro

The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive cousin, the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic hoovers vacuums that we have test. They feature motors that are top of the line and can suction up to 5,500 Pascals. Like other premium iRobots (including the top model) they utilize smart mapping to create detailed floorplans and avoid household obstacles like cords and furniture leg. The robots also have Carpet Boost, a feature which boosts its power when it detects dirt on the carpet.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests on floors that were bare and are especially adept in removing dog hair. They do have some flaws, however, that prevent them from being our first choice. One of the Q5's shortcomings is its navigation system does not have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's therefore prone to getting stuck on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate through rooms with a lot of people well during our tests. Also, it doesn't have cameras that let it see the corners of an area.

It's still a good deal for those whose office or home has a lot of unfinished flooring and you're looking to save money. It's also very quiet and you can use it while you're at work or school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming that is offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective in mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with self-emptying docks, however. If you want to change the mopping pad for dry ones in a matter of seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact sleek and stylish vacuum cleaner that also has the ability to sweep floors. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it easy to clean and effective at dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also features a self-emptying dustbin as well as powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot hoover for carpets but it's not as good as other hoovers when it comes to deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mops utilizes sensors that help it avoid obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the patterns of your home over time and ensure more efficient cleaning. You can alter its cleaning schedule and set up zones with the well-designed app. It has a battery life that is similar to other models.

When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can tell it to take off and extend its mops. This helps prevent cross-contamination. The flex arm is great for getting under furniture that is low and along baseboards. However, it doesn't have the same level of washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Professional+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

In tests during testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop in the market to clean an entire house, finishing with only 66 percent of its battery left. It did a decent cleaning job on various floors and rooms with different flooring types, including some area rugs. Its obstacle detection was excellent and it stayed clear of fake dog turds, socks, shoes and bundles of cables.

It's a bit more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but has superior suction and an onboard bin that is automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can also clean the floor even after it has vacuumed. This is a feature we haven't seen on other robot vacuum/mop combination.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

This mop and vacuum combination features a sleek, circular design that appears much like a Roomba model than the boxy units of the competition. It's among our most appealing looking robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot happens to be its smartest and has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).

It's also the only robot vacuum or mop that scored an absolute 10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is thanks to a mix of high-tech sensors, including a structured lighting system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mops.

Like other iRobot models, the X40 is user-friendly, offering a simple mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only downside is that the X40 is still a noisy unit. This can be a problem in mornings prior to work or during the night when you're trying to sleep.

It's also quite expensive, though it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra Both of which are equally capable and better-looking. If you're willing to put up with a little more noise and some additional cost this is a powerful two-in-one that will please almost everyone.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with many advanced features that will let you get rid of your chores. Similar to Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that can take the care of vacuuming and mopping, with a multi-function dock that automatically empty the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank, washes and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to draw out floorplans and identify obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its top competitors. It also has a front mounted camera that can detect hazards in real-time but this wasn't foolproof in our tests and was often confused with power cords or obstructions.

Its vacuum has a high suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to get the job done. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates how hard the vac works and alters the frequency of cleaning robot mop and vacuum for various areas of the house according to the amount of dirt they tend to be.

If you own a larger home, it is worth selecting a model with a spot or zone cleaning mode. This lets you tell the robot which area of your home must be cleaned by using the app or voice command. If you have furniture, a stair-mode is also useful. For busy families recharge functions and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to resume where it left off can be very useful.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you might imagine from its price. It has a great vacuuming performance and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses with a single pad that uses a reciprocating motion, which is cleaner than the other robot mop cleaners we've tried. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured application, and a self emptying base that can be washed.

The iRobot application is designed to guide you through a mapping run that collects data on your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, or to set up an automatic spot-clean. It can also be used to it to rank your most filthy areas for better performance. The app offers a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.

Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, meaning it is able to reach corners and underneath furniture better. It is equipped with a powerful 8,000 Pascal suction, as well as clever combs for removing pet hair. You can also set up a spot-clean which will thoroughly clean a specific area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker more affordable alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras resemble cute eyes. It's good at vacuuming, but it is more susceptible to be caught by low thresholds and is louder than the other top robot vacuums we've tried. It also has a less intuitive app and a small base station that can't be used as an emptying bin.
