Item upgrading allows players to improve their weapons and gear by adding new affixes, boosting its stats base or adding additional perks. To upgrade an item, a player has to have it in their inventory as well as access to the kiln.

Upgrade components

Leveling

The upgrade system in Path of Exile has some important variations from the previous versions. Gear is now categorized in tracks and each item is able to be upgraded as many times before it's "leveled out." The cost of upgrading is increased with each level however, the materials needed aren't as high.
