The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored extremely well in our tests on floors that were bare, and they are particularly adept in cleaning hair from dogs. There are some issues however, which prevent them from being our top option. For instance, the Q5's navigation system does not include AI-powered obstacle avoidance which means it's susceptible to become entangled in socks and shoes and couldn't navigate rooms with a lot of people well in our tests. It doesn't also have a camera to see around corners.

However, it's a good choice to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on an Roomba from iRobot, and you have a mostly bare-floor home or office. Plus, it's very quiet and can work while you're at work or going to school. The only thing it doesn't have that you won't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming of floors with no floor. And it's less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes that don't hold on for long and don't deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying dock, though. And, if you have to, you can switch the mopping pad to dry ones in a matter of minutes.

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact sleek and stylish vacuum cleaner that can sweep floors. Its smart cleaning maps and fluid navigation make it simple to clean and effective in tackling larger particles, like pet hair. It also has self-emptying dustbins with powerful suction and support for virtual boundaries. 3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

With an elegant circular design that appears more like a regular Roomba than the competitors' compact models, this mop and robot vacuum is one of the most attractive designs in our tests. The latest model from iRobot is also among its most advanced. It comes with advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).

It's the only robotic mop or vacuum that scored a perfect 10 in our tests, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors that include a camera, structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mop mops.

As with other iRobot models as well, the X40 is user-friendly, with a simple mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant. The only real drawback is that it's still quite loud which could be an issue if you use it in the morning before work, or at night when you try to sleep.

Similar to Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that can take charge of both vacuuming and mopping, with a multi-function dock that automatically empty the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank, and washes and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to draw out floor plans and detect obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its premium competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazards detection, though this wasn't completely foolproof in our tests, and could be confused with obstructions or power cords.

Its vacuum has a suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to get the job done. It also has a feature known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the home based on how dirty those areas tend to be.

If you have a larger home, it's worth selecting a robot that comes with zones or spot cleaning modes. This lets you tell the robot which area of your home must be cleaned by using the app or voice command. If you have lots of furniture, a stair-mode is also useful. It's self-sufficient too, with a full-featured app and an auto-emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through a mapping session that collects data about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules, or to set up the spot-cleaning. You can also use it to prioritize your dirtiest areas to improve performance. The app offers a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.
