They also have carpet boost, a feature which boosts the robot's power when it detects an abundance of dirt on the carpet to get it clean quickly.

Both the Q5 and the Q7 Max Series get very good scores in our bare floor tests and are particularly effective at cleaning pet hair. They do have some flaws, however, that prevent them from being our first option. For instance, the Q5's navigation doesn't have AI-powered obstacle avoidance, so it's prone to get caught up in socks and shoes and couldn't navigate tightly packed rooms very well in our tests. Also, it doesn't have a camera that would let it see the corners of an area.

It's still a great option, especially if you want to save money on an iRobot Roomba and you have a mostly unfinished home or office. It's also very quiet and you can use it when you're at work or school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming that is available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping, using disposable wet wipes that don't stay on well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle that can be emptied by itself. If you want to, you can swap the mopping pad to dry ones in just a few minutes.

2. iRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact, sleek vacuum cleaner that can also mop floors. Its smart cleaning maps and fluid navigation make it simple to clean and effective in dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also features a self-emptying bin with powerful suction and support for virtual boundaries. It's the most efficient robot hoover for carpets, though it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.

This highly efficient mop and vacuum combo uses advanced sensor technology to dodge obstacles and pet waste, and it learns the layout of your home over time to ensure more efficient cleaning. The app lets you set up zones and modify the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average when compared to similar models.

When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted space, you can tell it to take off and extend its mop. This helps prevent cross contamination. Its flex arm is great to get under furniture with low levels and along baseboards. It doesn't offer the same washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Professional+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During tests during testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop to complete the entire house with the battery at 66 percent left. It did a great cleaning job on a variety of rooms and floors with various kinds of flooring, including certain area carpets. Its obstacle detection was top-notch and it was nimbly avoiding fake dog socks, turds, and bundles of cables.

It's a bit more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but has superior suction and an onboard bin that is automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after it vacuums this feature, which we haven't seen in other robot vacuum/mop combos.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

This robot vacuum and mop combination has a sleek, circular design that appears more like the regular Roomba unit than the boxy units of the rivals. It's one of our most appealing looking robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is its most advanced model, with features that are cutting-edge like enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).

It's the only robotic mop or vacuum to score an exemplary 10/10 in our tests due to a mix of high-tech sensors, including cameras, a structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mop mops.

As with other iRobot models like the X40 is user-friendly, with an easy mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant. The only drawback is that the X40 is still a loud unit. This could be a problem in mornings before work or during the night when you're trying to fall asleep.

It's also somewhat expensive, though it's not as pricey as Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are similarly capable and more attractive. It's a dual-purpose vacuum that is very efficient, but it will cost you more and make more noise.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the best robot vacuum cleaner and mop robot mop and vacuum. It has a range of advanced features that will help you forget your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine that is similar to Ecovacs' top-of-the-range X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It features a multi-functional dock that can automatically empty the vacuum's bin and fills up the water tank, and washes and drys the mop pads.

The smart robot vacuum that mops employs an array of LIDAR and structured light to map out the floor plan and detect obstacles, navigating more intelligently than its more expensive competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazards detection, though this wasn't completely foolproof in our tests, and could be confused with power cords or obstructions.

The vacuum has a suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to complete the task. It also comes with an option called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas in the home based on how dirty those areas are.

If you have a larger home, it's worth selecting a robot that comes with spot or zone cleaning mode. This allows you to inform the robot of which area of your house needs to be cleaned using the app or voice command. If you have a lot of furniture, a stair mode is also useful. Additionally a recharge and resume feature that lets your robot vacuum continue where it left off is ideal for busy families.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is a more efficient cleaner than you would imagine from its price. It is a great job vacuuming, picking up 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using a single pad that uses a reciprocating motion that is cleaner than the other robot mop cleaners we've examined. It's self-sufficient too, with a fully-featured app as well as a self-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot app is designed to guide you through an exercise in mapping that collects data on your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, or to organize an automatic vacuum cleaner and mop spot-clean. You can also use it to prioritize your dirtiest areas to improve performance. The app also gives access to a host of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.

Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, which means it is able to reach corners and underneath furniture more easily. It also has a powerful 8,000 Pascal suction and combs that are intelligent for pet hair. You can also set up a spot cleaning that scours a specific area.

It's good at vacuuming, but is more prone to be caught by low thresholds and is more noisy than the other top robotic vacuums we've tried. It also has a less intuitive app and a small base station that doesn't double as an emptying bin.
