1. Roomba iRobot i3+ from iRobot EVO

The i3+ EVO and its i3 EVO sibling the i3 EVO are both identical robots that differ only in that the i3+ has self-emptying capabilities. The i3+ is a great option for those who want an automated, hands-free cleaning experience, but want to manually empty the dust bin after it has filled up.

The i3+ does not feature obstacle avoidance features like the i7+ or any other top-rated robots that we test. It may get stuck on power cords or socks and have trouble moving between different surfaces, like rug and hardwood.

iRobot recommends that you tidy the area around the i3+ EVO vacuums before using it. This includes getting rid of any toys or clutter it might encounter. It's also recommended to keep the dust bin and filter clean so they don't become clogged with dirt. When the i3+ EVO’s internal bin is empty or the battery is not fully charged, it returns to the docking station and takes the dirt out of the docking station's external dustbin. Then it continues cleaning from where it started. The battery's lifespan is around an hour-and-a-half of continuous usage. It takes about three hours to charge.

2. Roomba by iRobot

The iRobot i7+ is an excellent model from iRobot's flagship line and comes with the latest features. It's self-charging and self-navigating, but the most important feature is its self-emptying bin. This removes the need for regular maintenance.

The Roomba i7+ is able to remember up to 10 floor plans and their names thanks to Imprint Smart Mapping, which allows it to map rooms so it can clean them more efficiently. It also integrates with iRobot Home to schedule cleaning tasks, and you can control your cheap robot vacuum via the app or voice.

In our testing the i7+ was faster and more maneuverable than our top choice which was the eufy RoboVac G30, and it picked up large pieces of pet hair from all surface kinds, including carpeting. The main advantage it has over the Eufy is its self-emptying garbage bin which eliminates the main sources of maintenance and reduces the cost of maintenance.

We were also awestruck by the i7+'s integration with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant AI services, which we used to instruct the robot vacuum sale to start, stop or pause its cleaning sessions and to move around the room and sweep the area. Connecting the i7+ to these services was simple and easy with the iRobot Home app. After being connected, to speak commands to the i7+, for example "Hey Alexa vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home App also offers options for managing i7+ settings and evaluating the performance.

The biggest issue with the V10 is its sluggish run time. The tests conducted by CR show that its marketing claims of up to 60 minutes are not true. This is a standard, not exceptional, battery-powered vacuum's run time. It's enough time to sweep the average-sized home, but not enough to reach every spot. (A second pass usually works). This model has its own advantages however: it's light and more maneuverable than older Dysons cordless models, and its vacuuming ability is noticeable superior on carpets with low pile.
